Following My Calling

The next few days were rough. Leaving India was understandably much harder this time around. The transition was a little easier in the beginning because I came right back to a wedding but after that, it was much more difficult.

What has really helped is preparing for my calling. I want to help these children in a more permanent setting. I want to be over in India for a longer time. I am currently in the process of raising support to go over there for at least a year. I will fight for these kids every day. Every person in this world is important and these orphans deserve a chance. With me on the ground more opportunities can be offered to these children. Listed below are ways that I will be serving these children directly and indirectly:

• Teach English & Other Lessons – this is a significant means to escaping their lifelong sentence of poverty due to the caste system that though “illegal,” is still practiced
• Teach better hygiene and sanitation – prevent further malnutrition through infections and illness, combat parasite issue, proper trash disposal, etc.
• Support the ministry’s efforts to provide the children with nutritional meals to encourage healthy growth rates (40% of children under age three suffer from malnutrition)
• Teach and reinforce Biblical principles  - equip the children with lessons that will help them through difficult times and  prepare them for success
• Prepare for short-term mission teams arriving from the U.S., the U.K., and beyond; these teams are critical to raising awareness of the staggering need in India and in helping to meet the five key areas of child development mentioned previously
• Love the children - this is probably the most important bullet point because these are children without one or both parents because of death and/or abandonment so they have a great need for love and a feeling of importance. This is easily seen when they tell you to remember their names, that they love you, and not to go back to America.

There is much that can be accomplished! It is very exciting to see that so many lives can be changed!
